Summary
One of a group of five soup plates, porcelain, round with wide flat rims, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, for export to Europe, Qianlong period (1736–95), 1750–70, decorated on the rim in underglaze blue with gold highlights with baroque-style cartouches, scrolls and leaves, and in the centre in overglaze enamels in the famille rose (‘pink family’) palette with a man, a woman and a child on a terrace in a garden.
Full description
The baroque-style decoration on the rim of these plates is inspired by European design, while the image in the centre reflects Chinese ideals about the harmony among people and between humans and nature.

Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
