Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Portrait, probably Charles Strickland (1734-1770) by George Romney (Dalton-in-Furness 1734 – Kendal 1802), circa 1761. A portrait of a gentleman, wearing brown jacket and coat. The picture is less well documented than other Romneys at Sizergh but probably depicts Charles Stickland, son of Thomas Peter Strickland and husband of Cecilia Towneley, soon after he succeeded the estate after the death of his elder brother. There is a second, more finished, version of this picture at Sizergh Castle; NT 998464.
