Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Jane Strickland (b.1647?), later Mrs Middleton, as a Child with a Falcon and Dog, aged 4, by The Master JH (probably Jerome Hesketh) (fl.1647-1666), signed 'JH' (in ligature/monogram): Pinxit:/Ano.1651: Æta Suæ 4: Shown here as a child. Jane was the elder daughter of Sir Thomas Strickland and Jane Moseley. She married John Middleton of Stockeld, 1651. Until 2011 it was thought that the picture depeicted Walter Strickland (1647- 1656) before he was breeched.
