Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A View of Arlington Court and St James's Church Tower from the Park by Maria Pixell (fl. 1793 -1811), signed bottom left: Maria Pixell Pinxt / 1797. One of three views of Arlington Court by the same artist. A distant view of the old house and church tower from a high vantage on the opposite bank of the river. A steep bank with tall trees to the right leads down to the river which meanders from left to right at the bottom of the valley. A band of trees occupying the middleground opens onto a grassy hillside which is surmounted by the three-storey white stone building of the old house (demolished by 1820). The tower of St James's church stands to the left. The outlines of distant mountains can be seen beyond and above, a blue sky is dotted with white-grey clouds.
