Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Elizabeth Chichester, later Mrs George Blount (1771-1820) and Mary Macdonald Chichester, later Lady Clifford (1768 - 1825), aged 5 and 9, by Sir George Chalmers (Edinburgh c.1720 – London 1791), lower right: Geo: Chalmers Equs: Baros: / pinxt. 1777. A pair of half-length portraits of the daughters of John Chichester (1707 - 1783), aged five and nine, in a landscape, each wearing an almost identical blue dress; Elizabeth on the left is holding a basket with two white doves, while her sister clasps their pet lamb. Mary Macdonald Chichester was the first daughter of John Chichester (1707–1783) by his second wife, Mary Macdonald (1738 -1815) who married Thomas Clifford, (later Sir) Hugh Clifford of Tixall, Stafford. who changed his name to Thomas Hugh Constable.
