Brockwell 1915 Maurice Walter Brockwell, Catalogue of the Pictures and Other Works of Art in the Collection of Lord St Oswald at Nostell Priory, London 1915, cat. identified as Brockwell 377 by Alastair Laing, 1998; Brockwell attributes to the English School, dates to the late C16 and locates in the London Collection. Brockwee notes: ‘We are not called upon to accept the tradition that this is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth. But it is a lady of her reign. This seems to be the picture described as “Portrait of Queen Elizabeth” by Zucchero (1543-1609), for which, on 1 July 1868, Abraham Grave gave a receipt for £12. However, it is more clearly related to Mark Geeraerts, pictures of whose period can only rarely be attributed with any certainty’.
