Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Anacreon sacrificing to the Three Graces, by Antonio Zucchi, RA (Venice 1726 – Rome 1796), 1770. One of a pair of rectangular overdoor paintings of classical scenes. The ancient Greek lyric poet Anacreon is seen kneeing before a statue group, on the right, of the Three Graces, in a landscape, offering a sacrifice whilst putti paly with garlands of flowers and a goblet of wine from an ewer before him.
Provenance
Commissioned from Antonio Zucchi by Sir Rowland Winn, 5th Bt (1739-1785); thence by descent; accepted in lieu of tax by HM Treasury and transferred to the National Trust in 1986.
