Summary
Oil painting on canvas, David Weiss, aged 68, Swiss School, circa 1700, inscribed, top left: Aetatis suae 68 Aº 1700/ Professionatus 38 and on the back:‘Grand père de Madame la Baronne d’Hervart’ A half-length portrait of in black doublet and white ruff holding a Bible - with coat-of-arms top left hand corner. David Weiss was the great grand father of Sir Rowland Winn, 5th Baronet's Swiss wife, Sabine (née Hervart), on her mother's side. He was a Professor of Theology, known in the Winn family as 'The Swiss Reformer'. This portrait, in which he is holding a bible to indicate his profession, was shipped from the Hervart family home in Vevey to Nostell in 1781, on the death of Sabine's mother, the Baronne d'Hervart.

By inheritance from the d'Hervart family home in Vevey to Nostell in 1781, on the death of Sabine's mother, the Baronne d'Hervart; purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010
