Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), Thomas Henshaw (1618-1700), aged 77, follower of Gerard Soest (Soest c.1600 – London 1681), 1695. An oval half-length portrait in brown cloak and lace cravat. Thomas Henshaw (1618 – 1700) was a natural philosopher, writer, linguist and translator, and sometime foreign secretary in France and Denmark. He was an original fellow of the Royal Society, along with his brother Nathaniel Henshaw (1628 – 1673). Thomas Henshaw was the grandfather of Susannah (née Henshaw), wife of Sir Rowland Winn, 4th Baronet.
