Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Joel Dunz (b.1642/3) aged 25, Swiss School, inscribed with point, with a blunt needle, on stretcher: DUNZ Diaconus Brug; / [Ann]o 1668 AETATIS XXV. A half-length portrait of an ancestor of Sabine d'Hervart, in a black doublet and white ruff, with a book under his right arm.
Provenance
Presumably amongst the ‘Family Pictures' shipped from the D'Hervart family home in Vevey, Switzerland to Nostell in 1781, on the death of the Baronne, Sabine's mother, in 1779; purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010
