Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Abraham Duntz, aged 52, Swiss School, 1655, level with his left shoulder, a column; on it is inscribed “AB [conjoined] D” accompanied by a swan , and “Etatis 52 Aº 1655”…[ ’16..3’ ;according to Christie’s] A half-length portrait of Abraham Dunz, seated, holding a pair of pointers in his right hand, wearing a dark jacket with a square white collar and buttons down the front. Abraham Dun[t]z, ?Burgomaster of Berne, was an ancestor of Sabine, Lady Winn (née Hervart), the Swiss wife of Sir Rowland Winn, 5th Baronet, on her mother's side.
Provenance
Shipped to Nostell Priory from the d'Hervart family home in Vevey to in 1781, on the death of Sabine's mother, the Baronne d'Hervart in 1779; purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010
