Summary
Tea kettle, part of a set with a lamp frame and lamp, by Edward Feline, 1746/47. 'The globular kettle is raised and has an applied foot ring. The double-scrolled, curved and fluted spout is cast and has a bird-beak profile and an acanthus leaf at the lip. The flat cover is raised, has a flush five-piece hinge and is engraved around the border with rocaille decoration, scrolls, flowers and diaper-work and an answering imitation five-piece hinge. The baluster-shaped finial consists of a compressed globular central wooden disc with a cast stepped foot and is surmounted by a stepped ball capping secured internally by a screw and nut. Two cast shaped bosses are soldered to the body, to which are connected the two single-piece hinges. The cast S-scroll handles rest on cushion supports and are connected to the curved grip, which is covered in coloured and patterned woven wickerwork. The kettle is engraved with the shield of arms, supporters, motto and earl's coronet for George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington' (Lomax and Rothwell, 'Country House Silver from Dunham Massey', 2006, pp. 94).
