Summary
State bed upper outer tester valance. Fabric, dark red jaspe silk velvet, yellow shot silk weft and warp, red cut pile; Lining, baste fibre 'hessian', brown and white striped cotton braid 20 mm, brown linen braid, purple silk herringbone braid 16 mm; Trimming, (b) tasseled braid 50 mm, yellow and red warp, yellow and red silk weft loops, yellow silk wrapped gimp waved, tassels, yellow, black and red silk, (c) tasseled braid 25-28 mm, but metal thread and yellow silk wrapped gimp only; (f) tasseled edging 220 mm supported on wrapped wire lace, plaited and looped strips of parchment wrapped in red and yellow silk and metal thread, tasseled braid and single tassels; Design, alternate half circles and horse shoe shapes consisting of elaborate rosettes and tassels; Structure, edged with (f) trimming bottom edge, edged with (b) and (c) trimming three sides with top edge waved, There have been later repairs with early C.19th cords (see lining above), braids and tassels. The majority of the more ornate tassels are missing and generally the edging has flattened, one or two areas give the original 3-dimensional effect.
