Summary
Oil painting on canvas, George Harry Grey, 5th Earl of Stamford (1737-1819) by Anton Raphael Mengs (Aussig 1728 – Rome 1779), inscribed, upper right, in a later hand (same yellow hand as DUN.P.20 and DUN.P.28), with name of sitter and date 1768: George Harry 5th / Earl of Stamford / in 1768 by Mengs, circa 1760-1768 A three-quarter-length portrait, of a man turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, standing, an open book in his left hand, his right hand on his hip, wearing a scarlet coat and waistcoat with gold braiding coat, white stock with lace frilled edge and white lace cuffs, short brown wig, tied at the back. Stands before a stone wall, with a glimpse of vegetation on the left.
