Caption
The sitter shared his name with his father, the 3rd Earl of Stamford (1685-1739). He married in May 1736, the heiress Mary Booth (1704-1772) daughter of George Booth, 2nd and last Earl of Warrington (1675-1758), who bore him four children. The 4th Earl spent less time at Dunham Massey than at Enville Hall, where he created one of the most famous landscaped parks of the mid eighteenth century.

Oil painting on canvas, Harry Grey, 4th Earl of Stamford (1715-1768), studio of Thomas Hudson (Devonshire 1701 – Twickenham 1779), inscribed in white, bottom left: Harry fourth Earl / of Stamford, 1749 - 1800. A painted oval half-length portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a short white powdered wig, white cravat with handing bands, and wearing a peer's ermine robe. In 1736 he married his cousin Mary Booth, the daughter and heiress of the 2nd Earl of Warrington.
