Summary
Oil painting on panel, Robert Cordell by follower of Marcus Geeraerts the younger (Bruges 1561 - London 1635), circa 1610. A three-quarter-length portrait of an elderly man, standing, turned slightl to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a black fur-lined robes, holding his gloves in his left hand, with a ship beyond. Inscribed top left 'Robert Cordell Esq of Edmonton in the County of Middlesex whose son John Cordell settled at Melford and was Father to Sr Wm Cordell'.
Provenance
From the Hyde Parker collection. Loaned from the Hyde Parker family in 1997 and later purchased from Sir Richard Hyde Parker and Lord and Lady Camoys 1997 in October 1997.
