Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Francis Vincent, 1st Bt, MP (c.1568-1640 ), British (English) School, inscribed mid-left (in house style): Sr. Francis Vincent Bart/1618. Portrait of a young man, within a simulated marble oval, head-and-shoulders, dark hair, moustache and pointed beard. He is dressed in a black suit with a large falling ruff. Sir Francis was the son of Sir Thomas Vincent (1542/3–1613) of Barnack, Northamptonshire, who came into and moved to Stoke D’Abernon, Surrey, through his marriage to Jane Lyfield (d.1619/20). He was the second husband of Elinor Mallet (d.1614), daughter and heir of Robert Mallett of Wolleigh. Elinor was the widow of Sir Arthur Acland (d.1610). Sir Francis married as his second wife Sarah Paulet (d.1608) and their daughter Elizabeth Vincent (d.by1650) married Sir John Acland, 1st Bt (c.1591-1647) the son of his 1st wife's marriage.
