Summary
Oil painting on panel, Mary Heath, Lady Morley (1608 - 1669) by Cornelius Johnson (London 1593 - Utrecht 1661), signed lower right; C. J. fecit/1631 and inscribed in later hand centre right : Lady Morley only dau./ of Sir Robert Heath/ 1633. A portrait of the second wife of Sir John Morley, as a young woman, bust length, turned slightly to the left, gazing at spectator. Pake brown hair, tightly curled around the face and over the forehead, a black dress with sleeves of elbow-length panes in two tiers tied with ribbons, a large wide fine lace collar, stretching over the shoulders, a small mauve bow in the centre of the collar is the starting point of a hanging bejewelled gold chain, which is pinned to the top of her left sleeve on the lace of the collar and then travelles to the top of her right sleeve where it terminates. She also wears drop jewelled earrings and a triple necklet of pearls.
