Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Captain Charles Richard Dyke Acland RN (1793-1828), British (English) School, but formerly attributed to Mather Brown (1761-1831), circa 1820. A half-length portrait of a young man, turned to the right, head turned to the left, gazing to the left. In a short grey powdered wig and wearing a green coat buttoned high on chest, yellow waistcoat and white stock with small bow-cravat. A red curtain is draped above showing a distant landscape and cloudy sky beneath. He was the third son of Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 5th/9th Bt (1752-1794) and Henrietta Anne Hoare, and younger brother of Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 6th/10th Bt (1787-1871). Was married in 1819 to Charlotte Frances Templer, daughter of James Templer. They had no issue.
