Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Colonel Peregrine Palmer (d.1684) of Fairfield, Somerset, British (English) School, late 17th century. Inscribed: Colonel Palmer of Fairfield 1657. The second son to Sir Thomas Palmer of Fairfield, the grandson of Sir Thomas Palmer of Parham. Portrait of a florid mature man, three-quarter-length, standing, turned to left, facing out, gazing at spectator. He is in a grey curled wig, worn short on top and wearing a suit of black armour with a white linen collar. His helmet is to the left on a ledge. He is holding a baton with his right hand, his left hand resting on a stone ledge fingering the hilt of his sword which is worn from a slim red sword-belt. Red drapery on the stone ledge on the right. Brown wall on the dark sky on the left

By inheritance, through Cecuily Wroth, wife of Sir Hugh Acland, 6th Bt, until accepted in lieu by HM Government and transferred to the National Trust in 1995
