Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir William Morley KB (1637/8 - 1701) of Halnaker Hall, Stoke D'Abernon attributed to Samuel van Hoogstraten (1626-1678), formerly attributed to Gerard Soest (c.1600-1681). Dated 1662. Portrait of a young man, half-length, turned towards the right, gazing at spectator. He has a full brown curled wig, falling to below his sholders and is wearing a black jerkin, white shirt, white lace cravat and red sash of the Order of the Bath with jewel suspended from it at his waist. By inheritance, through Cecily Wroth, wife of Sir Hugh Acland, 6th Bt; accepted in lieu by HM Government and transferred to the National Trust in 1995
