Oil painting on paper laid onto plaster (circular), Adonis leaving Venus asleep as he departs for the Chase by Antonio Zucchi, RA (Venice 1726 – Rome 1796), 1768-70. One of a series of five decorative medallions painted on the ceiling and cornices. This set is framed in the plaster work of Robert Adam's ceiling.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death-duties from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877-1951) and transferred to the National Trust in 1957
