Oil painting on canvas, The Infant Christ and Saint John (after Murillo) by Agustin Esteve y Marques (Valencia 1753 - Madrid c.1820), 1779. A copy after the original painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (Seville 1617 – Seville 1682) in the Palazzo Reale, Madrid, now lost and another copy of which is now in the Hermitage, St Petersberg.
Provenance
Commissioned in 1778, it was brought to John Lord Boringdon, from Madrid, by his brother-in-law Lord Grantham, then British Ambassador at that Court in Auguat 1779;given to the National Trust as part of the endowment by Montagu Brownlow Parker, 5th Earl of Morley (1878-1962)
