Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Admiral Sir Hyde Parker, 5th Bt (1714-1782) by James Northcote, RA (Plymouth 1746 – London 1831), inscribed: S Hyde Parker Northcote pinxit 1781. A half-length portrait of a descendant of Thomas Parker, whose eldest son was ancestor of the Parkers of Saltram. He is turned to the right, head facing, in naval uniform. He was Vice Admiral of the Blue in 1780 but lost at sea in 1782 in the 'Cato' sailing to take up his appointment as Commander-in-Chief in the West Indies.
Provenance
Accepted by the Treasury in part payment of death-duties from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877-1951) and transferred to the Trust in 1957.
