Oil painting on canvas, Sir John Hort, 1st Bt (1735–1807) by Gilbert Stuart, (North Kingstown, Rhode Island 1755 - Boston 1828), inscribed on frame, bottom right: [Stuart pinxit] 1785. A half-length portrait of the son of Josiah Hort and (Archbishop of Tuam) and brother of Frances, the first wife of Lord Boringdon, aged about 50. He is facing, head to right, clean-shaven, grey eyes, and powdered hair wearing a red coat, buff waistcoat and white stock. Open sky background.

Accepted by the Treasury in part payment of death-duties from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley (1877–1951) and transferred to the Trust in 1957
