Summary
Dinner service, porcelain, comprising soup plates, dinner plates, side plates, several sizes of serving dishes, tureens, sauce boats and stands, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, Qianlong period (1736–95), mid-18th century, decorated in the famille rose (‘pink family’) palette in pink, red, green, two shades of blue, yellow and gold with the ‘tobacco leaf’ pattern, a bold asymmetrical pattern of stylised flowers and scrolling leaves.

Famille rose porcelain was particularly popular in Europe during the middle and the second half of the 18th century, as it chimed with the taste for brighter and more saturated colours in interiors and fashion during this period (North 2018).
Provenance
Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust, 1957.
