Oil painting on canvas, Sir William Hervey, MP (1585 - 1660), British (English) School, 1652. A head-and-shoulders portrait of elderly man looking to right. Balding, with brown-grey hair over his ears, and blue eyes, wearing a white lace collar with a tassel at the throat, and a black coat. Dark brown background. Coat of arms, top left. Inscribed: Anno 1652 / ætat 67

Presumably commissioned by the sitter; thence by descent; accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of tax and transferred to the National Trust in 1956.
