Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Isabella May, Lady Hervey (1625-1686), British (English) School, 1650. A three-quarter-length portrait, facing half-left, standing in landscape. She has blue eyes, auburn hair in ringlets. She is wearing a low-cut cream dress with a dark green drape over her right shoulder, falling to a round table on the left with three roses. She wears a pearl necklace, earrings and bandeau, a pearl and brilliants brooch, four sleeve-clips, and a belt. Inscribed on reverse 'Isabella, wife to Sir Thomas Hervey, and mother of John, Earl of Bristol'.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
