Summary
Portrait miniature, enamel, Henry Fox, 1st Baron Holland of Foxley, PC, MP (1705-1774) by Christian Friedrich Zincke (Dresden 1685 - Lambeth 1767). 1729. Oval. Half length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a bright blue coat fastened with brooches, and with slashed sleeves showing white shirt. Hazel eyes, powdered wig, purplish complexion. Dark background. Inscribed on reverse behind glass 'Mr Henry Fox, 1729, created Lord Holland 1763. C. F Zincke pinxit'. Younger brother of Stephen Fox, 1st Lord Ilchester, close friend of John, Lord Hervey.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Probably given by the sitter to Lord Hervey.
