Summary
Portrait miniature, enamel, An Unknown Gentleman probably a Member of the Hervey Family by Christian Friedrich Zincke (Dresden 1685 - Lambeth 1767). c.1740. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing 17th century fancy dress, a red doublet with white falling lace collar. Grey eyes, powdered wig, florid complexion. Plain grey background. Engraved on back of gold locket 'C.F. Zincke'. Sitter is aged about 30 in the 1740's.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
