Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Henrietta ('Harriet') Hervey (1716-1732), attributed to John Fayram (active c.1713–d.1744), circa 1730-32. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, standing, holding a cream straw hat in her left hand, her right elbow resting on a table bearing a basket of fruit. She is wearing a blue-green dress and white bodice laced in front with blue-green cuffs, and has dark hair and eyes. Trees and landscape background, with distant horizon with sky on the right.
Provenance
Given to Frederick William, 4th Marquess of Bristol (1863-1951) by Mrs John Greene, whose father-in-law had bought it from Ickworth; accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of tax and transferred to the National Trust in 1956.
