Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Hon. Charlotte Wilson, The Hon Mrs Abbot Upcher (1790-1857) by Richard Westall, RA (Hertford 1765 - London 1836), 1814. A half-length portrait of a young woman, five years after her marriage to Abbot Upcher at 'Sheringham Bower', turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, her tightly curled short brown hair, dressed with ivy leaves, wearing a white empire-line dress with a small red red sash belt, and a white scarf tied at the neck. Seated on a grassy bank beneath a tree on the right, distant horizon with trees on the left, blue sky. Previously in Entrance Hall.
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust with Sheringham, with grants from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Countryside Commission, the National Conservancy Council, and several bequests, in 1987
