Summary
Oil painting on canvas, possibly Sir Thomas Hesketh, 1st Baronet Hesketh of Rufford (1727-1778) by Henry Pickering (fl.1740 – Manchester 1771). A half-length portrait of a man turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a blue coat and an embroidered waistcoat. Sir Thomas Hesketh was the eldest son of Thomas Hesketh, M.P. of Rufford and his wife Martha St Amand. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and was created a baronet in 1761. He married Harriet, daughter of Ashley Cowper. She was both a cousin and favourite correspondent of the poet, William Cowper.
