Summary
Tapestry, wool and silk, 7 warps per cm, Verdure, Flemish, c. 1680-1700. A landscape tapestry with a large tree in the centre, a group of flamingos at the left and some turkey-like birds to the right.
Full description
This tapestry may come from the same set as nos. 783217, 783214.1 and 783214.2. There are large brown patches throughout the tapestry caused by glue being pasted onto the reverse in an effort at conservation. The tapestry is not to be treated as part of the permanent collection of the house, as its condition is too poor to display and it does not merit the cost of conservation.
Provenance
On loan to Rufford Old Hall from Major the Hon. John Breckinridge Fermor-Hesketh (1917-1961); by descent to Mrs J.I. Robinson; given to the National Trust by the executors of her estate, 2013.
