Summary
Oak press cupboard of East Lancashire/West Yorkshire origin, marked ‘TH 1691’ (but with mid-19th-century restorations); carved with scaled pattern on frieze of scalloped cornice, fruiting flowers on the two upper door panels either side of an arched centre panel, and four lozenge panels on each of the two lower doors
Provenance
Probably acquired by the Hesketh family during their antiquarian refurbishment of Rufford Old Hall in the 1830s; identifiable in a 1910 inventory; purchased by the National Trust from the executors of the estate of Mrs J.I. Robinson, with the assistance of grants and donations from the V&A Purchase Grant Fund, the J.P. Jacobs Charitable Trust and the National Trust Centres and Associations, North West Region, 2012.
