Summary
Oil painting on copper, Venus and Cupid in a Landscape by Filippo Lauri (Rome 1623 – Rome 1694). Venus semi-naked is reclining on a plinth carved with a garland-bearing satyr-herm, in a wooded landscape, one putto sits nearby weaving flower garlands from a basket; Cupid, with quiver of arrows at his feet, scatters flowers on her from the air; behind her a dove treads his mate on a branch. Carved gilt frame. Other versions of this exist. This one looks good, but a little mechanical, and thin in parts. After cleaning by Simon Folkes it is nonetheless of sufficient quality to be called original.
