Summary
Act of Parliament or Tavern Clock. George III period. Circular dial movement by John Stone of Henley, c.1790. Japanned case of black lacquered chinoiserie design. White painted dial, black chapters, spearhead hands, lacquered hands, remains of gold paint on rear. Minute hand is counterbalanced. 4 pillars, 5 wheels. Rectangular shaped case with circular enamel dial at top with Arabic and Roman numerals, with a wooden moulding around it. Shaped scroll brackets under the dial and each side of the case. Rectanguler trunk door with a curved top to fit under the dial, japanned with an oriental style temple with figures and birds. A moulded curved base with a shaped drop-down door at the bottom to access pendulum. Movement - Dial has a single central winding hole, so a single train movement.
