Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Still Life of Fruit with a Parrot in a Garden by Michele Pace del Campidoglio (Rome c.1610 - Rome c.1670). A red and blue parrot sitting at the base of a large classical urn/bath in a garden, with lion's mask, a broken capital beside it, and a gold dish, surounded by fruit. Pendant to the painting NT 773434. Both are in early 18th-century gadrooned giltwood frames. Such pictures were originally painted - mostly by Northern immigrants - for the galleries of grand Roman palazzi; but they were subsequently acquired by those making the Grand Tour, or bought at auction in London, for galleries such as this one at Osterley, that were partly inspried by Roman models.
