Summary
One of a set of five wooden pelmet boards for the Whistler Room, Mottisfont Abbey. Painted in trompe l'oeil by Rex Whistler (1905-1944) to resemble green velvet edged with ermine to match the room's curtains with green canvas tassels. The original paper tassels were replaced with canvas by Percy Stone WIllats in 1950. 1939-1950.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust in 1957 from Mrs Russell under the Memorandum of Wishes.
