Summary
Set of five wooden pelmet boards. Painted in trompe l'oeil by Rex Whistler (1905-1944) to resemble green velvet edged with ermine to match the room's curtains with green canvas tassels. The original paper tassels were replaced with canvas by Percy Stone WIllats in 1950. 1939-1950.
Provenance
Commissioned by Maud and Gilbert Russell for the Drawing Room, Mottisfont Abbey in 1938. Transferred by Maud Russell to the National Trust with Mottisfont Abbey and Estate, 1957.
