Summary
Oil painting on canvas, formerly identified as Louis-Auguste de Bourbon, duc de Maine (1670–1736) by François Jouvenet le Jeune (Rouen 1664 1645 - Paris 1749). A half-length portrait of a young boy, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing armour, with a lace cravat, a blue cloak hanging from his right shoulder and looped over his right arm, he is holding a helmet with a white feather in his right hand, landscape background. Signed and dated on the back of the canvas, 'Peint par Jouvenet le Jeune Fév[rier] 1700'. Catalogued as 'in manner of François de Troy (Toulouse 1645 - Paris 1730)' prior to the discovery of the inscription on the original canvas during relining.
