Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) by The Hon. John Collier (London 1850 – Hampstead 1934), signed and dated 1900. A three-quarter-length portrait of Kipling, standing in front of a burning fire, his hands in the jacket pockets of his dark green suit. Author and poet; son of John Lockwood Kipling (1837-1911) and Alice Macdonald; married Caroline Starr Balestier (1862-1939). They had three children: Josephine Kipling (1892-1899), Elsie Kipling, Mrs George Bambridge (1896 – 1976) and John Kipling (1897- killed in action 1915). No 192 at the New Gallery in 1891.
