Summary
A boarded oak coffer, or 'six-plank' chest, English, mid-17th century. The hinged lid enclosing an interior fitted with a lidded till. The front board with run mouldings at its top and bottom edges, and three registers of carving - guilloche, stiff leaves, and guilloche - the later iron lockplate atop a carved shield. The ends boarded and with arched cutaways forming feet.
