Summary
An oak and fruitwood cupboard, South-West England, mid-17th century and later. The top, base moulding and feet later. The top rail carved with interlaced crescents, typical of Dorset/Devon, above a fun of gauge carving. The pair of twin-panelled doors in gauge-carved rails. The drawer carved as the toprail and able to open only when the cupboard doors are unlocked and open. Gauge-carved side uprights. Iron hinges and later brass escutcheon and handles/backplates.

Listed in the End Room (North) in the Inventory taken at Bateman's in 1939. Bequeathed by Caroline Starr Balestier, Mrs Rudyard Kipling (1862-1939) with Bateman’s and its contents.
