Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Colt Hoare, 2nd Bt (1758 - 1838) by Prince Hoare (Bath 1755 – Brighton 1834), circa 1783. A three-quarter length portrait of Sir Richard Hoare, possibly painted about the time of his marriage in 1783. He is looking to the right, wearing a plum-coloured coat and grey waistcoat, leaning with his right arm on the base of a statue, his arm across his body.
Provenance
Brought from Wavendon by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare 6th Bt (1865 - 1947) and Alda Weston, Lady Hoare (d. 1847) between 1894 and 1898. Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
