Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Susan Colt, Mrs Henry Hoare (d. 1743) by Hans Hysing (Stockholm 1678 – London 1753), signed and dated: H.Hysing pinxt 1733. A three-quarter length portrait of the second wife of Henry II Hoare, standing slightly to the left, her right hand on a table and holding flowers flowers in her left hand. She wears a white satin dress with a blue cloak falling with a flourish over her left arm. A landscape is beyond on the right.
Provenance
Commissioned and bought by Henry Hoare II (1705 - 85) for 16 guineas in 1733 and thence by descent. Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
