Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Hoare, 1st Bt (1734/5 - 1785) by Samuel Woodforde, RA (Ansford 1763 - Ferrara 1817), circa 1770. Sir Richard, in a russet-coloured coat, is seen seated in profile at his desk, in a corner, looking towards the left. On the desk are handwritten books and a bronze greyhound paperweight from his collection. The arms of Hoare impaling Acland have been added top right.

Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946
