Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Hoare, Kt (1709 - 1754) by Allan Ramsay (Edinburgh 1713 – Dover 1784), signed and dated: A. Ramsay 1746. A three-quarter length portrait of Sir Richard, facing to the right but looking forwards, standing in a mole-coloured coat and red fur-lined robes and wearing the Lord Mayor's chain of office which he was, as well as knighted in 1745.
Provenance
By family descent until given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
