Summary
Oil painting on panel, The Holy Family (after Schedoni), after Bartolomeo Schedoni (Formigine 1578 – Parma 1615), mid to late 17th century. The Virgin is seen, head and shoulders, wearing a white headress, sitting in front of a table on which the tiny Christ Child and Infant Saint John hug each other. The head of Saint Joseph, bearded, is behind them on the right.
Provenance
Acquired by Richard Colt Hoare 2nd Bt (1758 – 1838); in house by 1800.Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
