Caption
Apollo, one of the twelve Gods of Olympus, appears as a beautiful half-length nude figure with shoulder-length golden hair and a halo, referring to his identification as the sun-god. He carries a bow and quiver of arrows, with which he killed the serpent, Python, and plays, as leader of the nine Muses, his silver-coloured lyre.

Provenance
Acquired by Richard Colt Hoare 2nd Bt (1758 – 1838) as Paolo Veronese; given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
